As an external analyst, let me suggest that the decision should come with the addendum of the mentioned 'Huston clause'. The use of excellent premise/poor execution films would provide much richer potential than recreation of quality material. Something like the Spanish film 'Intacto' which was intriguing in principle but botched in execution would be a prime candidate. See also 'Ocean's 11' and 'Battlestar Galactica'.

Blayde: As a group, we have a wide spectrum of beliefs, so it seems quite likely that there are elements of any ruling that may be up for debate amongst our peers outside the court, and we respect that.

Roland: Originality is risky, and I think that is why the studios are turning to remakes more frequently year after year. The point that came up in quite a few of the verdicts was that even if there was a moratorium on remakes, it still wouldn't address the underlying problems facing Hollywood movies.

Great points!!! Great minds think a like!

I just wish Hollywood would get more original. Instead of remakes of older movies or the same old stupid cliche falling in love movie or, the worse lately, remaking old TV shows, I do wish that they would take more original stories and make them into movies. Minority Report, DejaVu or others like that are very original and entertaining. Even the Will Ferrell movies are more original then some of the Meg Ryan movies out there.

I would disagree with 'you'll' on War of the Worlds, that movie reminded me what Hulk would be like on an international scale. Not that it was a bad movie, but not the best imo.

Congrats on the new Supreme Court, i hope none of you are fighting for center seat. :)
